RE: St. Mary's Rock Tunnel - BlueRidge (Skyline Drive)

OK, many thanks to All, but the DW isn't real excited about trusting the oncoming traffic. We did negotiate a similar tunnel with our previous RV leading into Zions Canyon, but the rangers there stop traffic on each end and signal you thru with walkie-talkies. I guess will end up doing the boring superslab (I81) or is there a way around the tunnel where I could still do a bit of the Parkway? Going down to say hey to Andy @ Mt. Airy, NC on way to Boone and then Smokies.
Thanks for the advice--y'all are the best!

St. Mary's Rock Tunnel - BlueRidge (Skyline Drive)

Would appreciate your experience driving the Skyline Drive. Have a 40' Class A that is supposed to be 12'4"---there is a tunnel that starts this adventure that is supposed to be 12'8"..... a little close tolerance not to inquire about. :?
So if you've done it, please share or a workaround. Also any problems with hairpins and towing?
(When you're from Florida, a manhole cover is a big deal).
Thanks!

RE: inverter/charger boiling batteries

OK, it is a Dimensions 2000 watt. After I stepped down the charger to 5 amps it stopped boiling over and later I checked and it did go into float mode.
I'm still not comfortable with it; and will try to determine what setting it's on. Manual states "there is a battery selector switch located on the right side of the chassis that must be set to the type and size of the battery bank...." (gives examples). That's interesting since all my batteries, ATS, etc. are on the left side of the chassis.

inverter/charger boiling batteries

just replaced (3) deep cycle batteries. charger is boiling the new batteries; admitedly I did top off with some distilled water and prob. a wee bit too much, but... they were new off the shelf. I went in and stepped down the charge to 5 and hope that's the ticket. I really think it's why I only got 18 mos. out of these batteries the first time. Engine batteries seem to be fine.
this is an '07 Winne Tour. Any similar experiences.

RE: Battery Amp Hour

Ok, thanks all, I'm going to replace with 12's again.
Now: I'm leaning toward same standards vs. Gels (i.e. can replace them twice for price of gel) -- I do like the maintenance free part though.
Kinda leaning toward Interstate or Wally World, just because of availablity on the road?

RE: Battery Amp Hour

There is a Group 31 sticker on each of (3)house batteries, but I don't recall any name brand; I'll have to look again. I did check Sam's club today per one suggestion and they had some Gp31 batteries, but they also did not have anything about AH, and only said CCA--I don't want/care about the engine battery at this time. Doubt these were even deep cycle, but am looking for what the Group 31 is really telling me.
Here's another question: If the dual 6volts are so much better than 12's for house use, why aren't any of the manufacturers using them?

easiest way to find AH if you can't read on the batteries?
manuals are worthless and so is the Winne website.
Thanks.

upper peninsula "seasonal" campgrounds

Will we be able to find sites, either State Park or private, the END of September and first of October or will they start closing? What temperatures should we expect in Northern Mich. that time of year. Be nice, we're from Florida. :-)
